LGBT+ History Month 2021

Library’s Virtual Student Curator shines a light on LGBT+ History
The current Library Virtual Student Curator project is a celebration of LGBT+ History Month, in which the curator will highlight materials relating to LGBT+ histories found in the Library.
In representing the student voice, the curator is actively helping to develop and diversify collections, including suggesting new titles to buy, thus ensure our collection continues to grow and to be relevant to the University community.
The project curator said:
“With this curation, I wanted to highlight the importance of reaching out and listening to people’s stories. LGBTQ+ History, its impact on today and the influence it’s had on people’s lives are not as widely discussed as they need to be. I want this curation to create a continuing dialogue that allows people to gain an understanding and learn the importance of representation and amplifying LGBTQ+ voices. I also want to create a space for LGBTQ+ people within the university to get involved and share their thoughts.”
The Library has collaborated with eight Student Curators since 2018, all of which have combined their creativity, voice and experiences with their curiosity and research skills to curate displays, events and materials for the Surrey community. This year is the first time the project has been entirely virtual.
The LGBT+ History project runs from Monday 8 February until Friday 19 February, and you can follow the campaign on the Library blog, or social media @surreylib.
